Година на построяване
1932
Кратка информация
The building was built in 1932. The owner and designer is arch. Art. V. Popov (arch. Stefan Venedikt Popov, 1889-1956). The building is the first example of arch. Art. V. Popov, both entrepreneur and designer. The owner of the corner plot is his mother's sister - Sotira Stefanova. For the needs of the large building, two neighboring properties were also purchased. Originally, the building was intended for a hotel. It is advertised in the press and on brochures as "Beach Varna". Towards the end of construction, in 1933, for financial reasons, the building was converted into a residential building, and the apartments were sold out. It was built on the street regulation and on a shield along the lateral regulation from the west and south. There are six full floors.
The building has a massive construction - reinforced concrete slabs and brick walls. The roof is flat. On the ground floor there are six commercial premises, three service rooms attached to them and an entrance space to the block. The floors have a lobby and ten rooms each with their own bathrooms. In the basement there is a boiler with storage, eight cellars and five service rooms.
The ground floor was renovated, the openings were changed and the symmetry of the upper facade was lost. Advertising elements are hung all over the ground floor and above it. There are attached air conditioners, air ducts between the floors and all kinds of bundles of cables.
In typological and scientific terms, the project is more valuable than the construction implementation. The first modern hotel in the city was designed with spacious common areas, a patisserie and restaurant on the ground floor, a local in the basement, a reception hall on each floor and sanitary facilities for each room.
The building is also valuable as a stage in the development of architecture in the city, with the fact that that this is one of the buildings that, with its volume, functionality and facade solution, imposes the basic postulates of modern architecture.
In technical terms, there are also innovations, such as the central heating system and the elevator, which was specially imported from Germany.
In urban planning terms, it plays a role on the corner of "Primorski" boulevard and "Graf Ignatiev" street.
As explained above, the historical significance is in the direction that the site represents a stage in the development of the resort business in the city, a stage in the stylistic development of Varna architecture and an example of innovation and modern thinking.
