Fountain Scele capu

The Skele Kapu fountain was built in 1834. to the left side of the port gates (Skele kaposu) of the city of Varna and looked towards the sea. In 1910 was moved near the then women's bathrooms. In 1925-26 it was again moved to the Sea Garden, near the entrance and just above the staircase to the Central Baths. At its current location - the retaining wall opposite the northern beach - only the front and side have been installed. The date of the last move is unknown. In 2001 the fountain has been mainly restored.

The fountain is made entirely of marble from elements in the late baroque style. All the elements and proportions of the Ionic composite order are observed. The fountain trough serves as a base, above it are placed two composite columns with spiral cordons around the bodies and scarves between the volutes of the capitals (Ionian capital according to Durm). Between them, in a rectangular niche, there is a decorative element ending in a low-profile palmette. It is characteristic of the object that above the rectangular niche, where in most cases there is an inscription, it is missing. Above the columns is a highly modified atnableman. The architrave is reduced to a plastic cornice. The frieze is flanked by triglyphs, with highly modified floral decoration. Between them is a blind lunette, also decorated with floral elements. The main cornice is low-profile with a tooth cut. Three acroteria are located above the main cornice, the lateral ones are palmate, and the middle one is in the shape of an urn.

Historically, the site is valuable as it represents a magnificent example of the improvement of the city. Fountains were an essential part of the urban culture of Varna in the 18th and 19th centuries.

In terms of urban planning, today the fountain is an essential element of the beautification of the coastal promenade.
