Година на построяване
1910-11
Кратка информация
The construction of the building was completed in 1911. The project was made in 1908 by arch. D. Dabkov (arch. Dabko Petrov Dabkov, 1875-1945). The first owners were the Municipality of Varna and the Charity Society "Mother".
The building consists of two floors, a basement and an attic. The supporting structure is monolithic, and the floors and roof are wooden. The building has a clean and markedly functional architecture, softened by the delicate curves of the roof and the cornices, decided in the spirit of the national traditional architecture, as well as the two side wings flanking, according to the old Bulgarian tradition, a comfortable courtyard.
From an urban planning point of view, the site occupies an important position on one of the busiest city roads - Varna - Asparuhovo district. Coming from Asparuhov bridge /part of international road E-87/ a clear, comprehensive view of the building is revealed. Regarding the macro environment - the later built high-rise buildings around are of a much larger scale, but they are at a sufficient distance so as not to compete with the artistic and volumetric significance of the "Knyaginya Nadezhda" home for children and adolescents. Interferences in time are minimal, there is a one-story annex to the backyard. The original function and authentic appearance of the building have been preserved to this day.
From a typological and scientific point of view, the building is extremely interesting, as one of the few buildings with a mixed educational and charitable function from the beginning of the 20th century.
The building and its function have the highest degree of historical value. The orphanage dates back to 1897, when, at the insistence of the "Samorazvitie" charity society, the "Milosardie" orphanage was established. It was originally housed in an old building on "Primorska" street. By decision of the Municipal Council dated 7.VIІ.1900, part of the building of the old "Men's High School" on "Panagyurishte" Street was granted to the orphanage. Since 1903, the management of the orphanage has been taken over by the "Mother" charitable society, and it has been called "Princess Nadezhda". From 1908, the second wife of Prince Ferdinand, Princess Eleonora became the honorary president of the society. With her help, funds collected from charity and aid from the Municipality, as well as from the ambassadors of Great Britain, France, Italy, etc., in 1910-11. the building of the Nadezhda Orphanage was built. The project of arch. D. Dabkov was personally approved by Queen Eleonora.
The building enjoys a high degree of civic popularity.
