Година на построяване
1888 / 1961 - reconstruction
Кратка информация
The beginning of the construction of the "St. Anna" Multidisciplinary Hospital for active treatment was laid in 1888, after the old Varna hospital was destroyed by fire. Initially, the hospital was named after Princess Maria Luisa, from where the name "Mariinska Hospital" comes from. Initially, the building was one-story. In 1904 during the management of the hospital by Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov, the building was electrified and equipped with a steam installation. In 1911-1912 the second floor has been upgraded. In 1961, after the opening of the Varna Higher Medical Institute, the building was upgraded with two new floors. The building acquired its current appearance according to the project of arch. A. Vankova (arch. Angelina Ivanova Vankova, born 1923). The building has a massive structure with a reinforced concrete skeleton. The plan scheme is typical for hospital facilities corridor, built on both sides. The hospital rooms are mainly in the south-eastern part, and in the north-west there are outpatient clinics and offices. In terms of volume and space, the building is composed of one main volume, which is expanded by symmetrical central and two end risalites. The middle edition forms the entrance space. The ground level of the hospital is highlighted in a separate color and is separated from the upper levels by a pronounced double cornice, following the issuance of the three volumes. The window openings on the ground level are framed with thick frames ending with a decorative keystone element. The facade space on the first level is treated with grouted facade plaster. The facade space on the upper three levels is more simply treated. The two end and middle projecting volumes are emphasized in a vertical relationship by means of pilasters interrupted by the double cornice between the first and second levels. All window openings are placed in axes one above the other. A definite highlight of the volume-spatial solution is the middle release shaping the entrance space. On the ground level, it is solemnly resolved and emphasized with 4 columns supporting the issuance of the upper levels. The four columns pass into pilasters on the second, third and fourth levels. The middle body ends in the roof with a classically shaped triangular pediment, in the tympanum, on which a round window is placed. The building is constantly rebuilt in accordance with the new requirements of medicine, so from its plans, no scientific conclusions can be drawn about the past and development of healthcare.
In urban planning terms, the site has no direct connection to the main urban fabric. Of city-wide importance is rather the surrounding park, which represents a green oasis in the dense surrounding urban structure.
In terms of style, thanks to the long period of creation, remodeling and upgrades, the building has an eclectic character, but in its final form it has a neo-Renaissance look.
Historical relation, the object is witness to the medical practice of luminaries of the Varna medical practice such as Dr. Angel Pyuskyuliev, Dr. Miron Ivanov, Dr. Anastasia Golovina, Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov, Dr. Dimitar Kamburov and many others. Significant events took place in the development of the theory and practice of medical science, which are kept in the archives of the Varna Medical Institute.
