Festival and congress center

The building was built in 1975 as a Cultural Center to meet the needs of the several culturally oriented festivals in the city of Varna. The project is the work of arch. K. Hristov (arch. Kosyo IvanovHristov, 1922-2014) and Eng. Hr. Kolev (eng. Hristo Ivanov Kolev, born 1936) The building is freely built on a plot. The main approach is from Slivnitsa Blvd. The skeleton-monolithic construction. The roof over the great hall is designed with steel trusses, transmitting the efforts of a reinforced concrete ring with a diameter of 38 m. The vertical load from the support ring is transmitted to columns, and in the nakinoka zone, the cinema booths step on the inclined beams carrying the upper part of the stands. The covering above the rest is a "cold roof" type - a double plate. The railings on the ramp to "Slivnitsa" Blvd. are designed as load-bearing beams. The rest of the structure is traditional - with beams and columns. The building includes a cinema hall with 1000 seats, a small hall with 320 seats located above the big one, a conference hall, a pastry shop, a snack bar, offices, as well as commercial halls with 40-50 seats each . The facades are in a modern style, and the overall volume suggests monolithicity. The main entrance is located on the main facade facing "Slivnitsa" Blvd. Above it rises the complex shape of the volume housing the halls with their adjacent parts. Its vertical division is realized by slits, framed by elongated details and filled decorative grids.

Aggressive advertising elements compete with the integrity of the facade.

They need to be reduced. The building is a typical sculptural building from the 70s of the 20th century.

From a scientific point of view, the synovative plan scheme for that time is valuable, bearing construction and the use of materials in the interior and exterior.

Architecturally, the building is testimony to the mature and extremely successful work of arch. Kosyo Hristov, in the full sense of the word. Works of the artistic synthesis of prominent artists and designers of national importance are exceptionally masterfully interwoven. In terms of urban planning, regardless of the difference in time, the object successfully fit into the surrounding environment, namely - the group immovable cultural value (architectural complex) - a system of ensembles along the boulevard "Knyaz Boris I" - "Slivnitsa" Blvd. The object is connected with all significant cultural congress events of local, regional, national and even international scale.

Festival and congress center - Varna enjoys extremely high civic popularity.
