A fountain in the courtyard of the Regional History Museum - Varna

The fountain was built before 1898. It was embedded in the north-eastern corner of the fence of the Girls' High School (now - Regional History Museum - Varna). The building of the Girls' High School was built in the period 1892-1898 according to the project of arch. P. Momchilov, and at that time, the fountain already existed. It was built entirely of stone, with two stone troughs, one facing the high school yard and the other facing the street. In a long period of time, the fountain has not been operational. In 1999, on the initiative of the Varna archaeologist Ivan Ivanov, the fence was adjusted so that the fountain remained completely on the street, outside the plot of the Regional Historical Museum - Varna. In 2000, the fountain was restored and fed by the museum's fire water main. There were two spouts - from the east and the west. At the moment they have been removed and the faucet is not working.

It consists of a plinth, a body and an attic. On the four sides of the body, there is a shallow niche, with a profile frame, with a dovetail finial. The spout is located in the lower part. The body ends with a plastic cornice. The attic above it is pyramidal, richly profiled and ends with a globe, which, according to the heraldry of the time, symbolized knowledge. An analogous example is the fountain in the courtyard of the Varna Commercial High School "G.S. Rakovski".

Historically, the site is valued as a magnificent example of urban development. Fountains were an essential part of the urban culture of Varna in the 18th and 19th centuries. In terms of urban planning, the fountain is an essential element of the landscaping of the courtyard of the former Girls' High School and along "Saborni" Street.
