Late Antiquity
The late antique tomb exhibited today was discovered in the 70s of the 20th century, studied in 2006. from RIM-Varna team (Hristo Kuzov, Teodor Rokov). In 2011, Elena Pencheva and Hristo Kuzov carried out rescue studies, with the aim of implementing a project for conservation and restoration and exhibiting the site.
There is no evidence that a mound was built on the tomb, which led to the hypothesis that it was completely dug in, but -late research proves that its vault and part of the west facade were above ground. It has a rectangular floor plan and a semi-cylindrical vault. Its orientation is approximately East-West. On the western side is the opening, which was closed with a stone lid with a specific section and an iron ring. The vault is built of stones and bricks, and the floor is covered with mortar, laid on gravel. The walls on the inside are rough-hewn stones with a mortar joint. According to the research archaeologists, it is likely that the tomb was family and reused for more than one burial. Due to treasure raids and the fact that the tomb had already been excavated, no human remains or artifacts were found in it.
Today, the site has been restored, preserved and exhibited. This is one of the many archaeological sites found on the territory of Ecopark. The found coins and other movable cultural values give grounds for hypotheses that the area was inhabited for a long period from the second quarter of the 3rd century to the beginning of the 7th century. Many movable and immovable objects of the material cultural heritage were discovered.
