The palace was built for the summer residence of Prince Alexander I of Battenberg between 1881 and 1885.The first name of the residence - Sandrovo comes from the Italian name of the prince - Sandro. In 1893, Princess Maria Louise Bourbon-Parma gave its present name - Euxinograd (the Hospitality City) - from the Greek name of the Black Sea, Εύξεινος Πόντος (Euxénos póntos).The original project for the main building of the Euxinograd Palace was designed from the Austrian architect Victor Rumpelmeyer. The Swiss architect Herman Mayer with the participation of arch. Nikola Lazarov, made some kind of intervention in the project in the 1890s, and create the current architectural appearance of the building.
