4th-3rd century BC

Information

Thracian Mound Necropolis, currently falls within the boundaries of the Park-Museum of the 1444 Battle Friendship. "Vladislav Varnenchik" and is composed of two preserved mounds. During the excavation work for the construction of a mausoleum of the Polish-Hungarian king Władysław III Jagiełło in 1935, a Thracian tomb was discovered in one of the mounds.

The preserved two Thracian mounds date from the 4th-3rd centuries BC. The vault of the burial chamber is built of almost identical limestone blocks without cement, lime, mortar or other material. The dromos (hallway) is half-ruined. It is assumed that a Thracian chieftain and his wife were buried in the tomb.

Legends say that on the so-called Vladislav Mound, during the battle of 10.11.1444, Sultan Murad II ordered the Szeged Peace Treaty to be engraved on a spear, for to show the "breach of oath" on the part of the king.

Today, there is a mausoleum of King Vladislav III Jagiellon in the mound, where you can see a stone copy of the sarcophagus of the king who died near Varna. It is located above the burial chamber from the Thracian period. The Thracian stone tomb is not in very good condition, as the weight of the mausoleum built later affects the construction of the tomb. After a survey back in 2014. the need to strengthen the archaeological immovable cultural value of national importance is established.
